Just what is In Scotterati Footsteps? In a word it’s a travel blog sharing our experiences and tips and a bit of extra research done especially for you. It will partly focus on travel in the Arabian Gulf and partly our other overseas trips. If I know of bargains and offers, we’ll add them in too!

But, wait, what’s Scotterati I hear you ask. It’s a portmanteau I made up to describe Scottish Emiratis! So that’s me and my young travel companion. I’m originally Scottish but also a naturalised Emirati based in the United Arab Emirates and my daughter is half Scottish, half Emirati.

Mostly I travel with my young sidekick (currently 13) but occasionally I travel solo or with others in tow too.

I also run Glimpses of the UAE which started in 2013 to show both tourists and residents the rest of the country beyond Dubai.

It focuses mostly on the five northern emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras al Khaimah but touches on Abu Dhabi emirate and Oman.

I’ll definitely have some posts on the UAE here too but in a different style. If you’re looking for more in-depth, head over to the website. I’ll also post relevant links on here at times. It’s a great starting point to explore UAE!

What is In Scotterati Footsteps?

I’m excited about exploring Oman more and also the recently opened tourism Saudi Arabia! There are some amazing green places, mountains, turquoise pools and more there!

Of course, it gets very hot in the summer here, so we’ll have some cooler destinations to share too starting with our wonderful tour of Iceland and my homeland of Scotland

I’m not really someone that’s into luxury stays, I’m more into more budget friendly and more unique or authentic stays but I’ll definitely share some select upmarket options where I can. My sidekick does love a nice hotel stay!

When it comes to experiences, I do a bit of both, a bit of free or budget and a bit of ‘you only live once ’category of activities, so hopefully there’s something for everyone.
